Hurricane Irene is already starting to wreak some havoc with race planning, so it's a good idea to be flexible.
As of now, both Sunday's Henry Isola X/C race in Van Cortlandt and the Bronx Half will be run as scheduled ... NYRR urging people to watch their website for updates. (My guess is that if there are any potential issues, the Bronx Half will be held as a "fun" run so that everyone who entered will get it as a qualifying race, though we'll see).
I do have to say, running the Bronx in rain is *much* more appealing than 90-degree temps.
Do keep a wary eye out if you're running something else on Sunday, and please, be careful.

Bronx Half Results
... are posted here. Congrats to the 5,000-plus that finished. Haven't had much of a chance to look them over or sift through the blogs, though some quick comments:
*Orest Babyak was the top Brooklyn male, finishing 3rd overall and top master. His AG performance of 86.05 is the top male from what I can tell in an initial glance...
*The top female AG was listed as Maggie Bodo, 61, of NY, at a stunning 99.26. Given that there's only one other listing, a 37:46 time for a 5K, can't imagine that will stand (Note to number swappers out there: If you're going to do it, don't mess up the age group results).
*Miriam Beyer, was the top Brooklyn female
*Will Abrams, a PPTC member, won the Male 50-54 category

Brooklyn Half in Late May, Bronx in August?
Am hearing from a few different sources that, while still tentative:
-- Brooklyn Half Marathon will be in late May. Not sure if NYRR would try to put on a race over Memorial Day weekend, meaning that perhaps we're looking at May 22/23. (Please note, even if the current plans are for late May -- we've seen the date move around a lot, particularly for Brooklyn).
-- Bronx Half (obviously at this point not in February), will be held sometime in mid-August. Ah yes, running on the Grand Concourse in the middle of the summer. That oughta be fun :-)
A lot of things go into picking the race date, so admittedly these could all change. But hopefully it gives you an idea if you're targeting either of these races. Am guessing this probably means Queens is in September, Grete's and Staten Island would be as usual in October.
BTW, Manhattan Half, on Jan. 24, has the dreaded "one-star" on the NYRR site, indicating that the race cap is fast approaching.

Bronx Half: What Weather!!!
Wow, I'm stunned. What freakishly beautiful weather at the Bronx Half! (A boon, especially after the not-so-freakishly cold weather at the Manhattan Half). This is a race that, because of the calendar switch in past years, probably has a 70 degree temperature difference between its high and low points over the years. Today: Started off at 56 degrees, according to the race stats on the NYRR Web site (personally, that seems a little high, but there's no denying the conditions were close to perfect.) And even the wind on the Grand Concourse wasn't too bad.
One of the benefits of the figure-eight course that features a few out-and-back stretches is that you get to see how the race is developing. Teklu Tefera Deneke had what seemed to be at least 1 minute lead after the first 3 miles!!!! and dominated with a 1:08:25. Top Brooklyn male finisher was stalwart Jacob Cooper, fifth overall, in 1:13:53. Sarah Joyce took the borough's female honors with a 1:28:26 (good enough for fourth overall).
Full results are here.
