Hearing some rumblings that folk picking up numbers for *other* runners at NYRR races are being told that they may need a letter, or some other proof, in the future.
Previously, I've had no problems picking up numbers for friends. Anyone hearing/seeing anything that would confirm a change?

I just called. The front desk person said "..all you have to do is show up and ask".
So I guess, maybe there was an volunteer making up their own rules, maybe.
Just volunteered there Friday passing out numbers for the mini 10k and can confirm this (pretty silly) rule--we were told to tell anyone picking up for a friend/SO that NYRR would wave the letter this time, but next time a letter and signature from each person not present will be required.
How they'll be able to actually verify these signatures without turning pickup into a nine hour ordeal is anyone's guess.
