Scotland Run: 7,603 Finishers?

I'm out of town, otherwise I might have headed into today's 10K in Central Park. As it is, need to rely on someone to verify what seems to be an astounding statistic: The NYRR Web site lists 7,603 finishers for today's race? (Given the apparent 5,000 cap, and the notice on the NYRR Web site that it was nearing capacity ... )

For anyone who ran today, can you say how it went? Crowded? Worked like a charm?

I think that number is amazing considering how it's about 45 degrees and has been pouring all day. What a bunch of troopers!!

I will verify not only did it seem a bit more crowded, up front at least, but over 7000 seems really high especially given it was some of the least pleasant weather this racing season. Congrats to all finishers.

Today was my volunteer shift, and my "supervisor" confirmed that "they didn't cap it". Which is curious and could only lead one to speculate: Did they expect a larger percentage of no-shows because of the weather? Was its being an all comers race a condition of a contract with a sponsor?

I found it amazing and amusing, listening to the announcer through the pre-race festivities, that with all they put into getting things right for these races, they couldn't find someone to give him the correct pronunciation for "Edinburgh" and "Glasgow". If I could have left my post I'd have done it myself.

Haven't been in a race in years but it was packed despite a steady rain. I had a lot of trouble getting up to speed the first 2/3 of the race. But it was well-run and the haggis was great!

I'm now looking at the Facebook comments on the race, and a number of people are raising the same question: Yes in fact there were a ton of finishers - which raises the question of what the cap was in the first place? Certainly wasn't 5,000. I suspect some continued tinkering with this.

Reading on the facebook community, I believe it was a higher cap because of the heavy sponsorship. Cap at 7k maybe? Seems like an arbitrary number if that's what it was.
